It is just a fact - in 2022 the interview process will take place almost entirely online, at least in the first rounds. You should prepare for the Zoom interview, in general, in the same way as for offline, but there are several nuances. Our tips will help you to nail it!

During your virtual interview, find a quiet place. Let everyone in your home know when and where you will be interviewing so they don't bother you.

Make sure the light source is behind the computer and the background is not distracting.

Sign up 15-20 minutes before your interview to make sure your audio and video is working properly.

To find the right outfit, research your corporate culture beforehand. To look your best, avoid bright colors and patterns and try to choose softer colors. For glasses wearers, be sure to adjust the lighting in the room to reduce lens glare. Position the camera so that it looks slightly up the center of the screen.

Try looking at the camera instead of the interviewer's image on the screen.

Maintaining good posture is important to give the impression of a positive attitude.

As you listen, nod and smile when necessary to show that you are giving your full attention. Try to keep your hands closer to your body and not to look away from your device.

In case something goes wrong:

  • Before the interview, ask the interviewer for a phone number to contact him in case of technical difficulties. If the video is interrupted, call them and ask if you can continue the interview over the phone or reschedule it.
  • If a sudden noise appears, apologize for the interruption and ask for some time until the noise dies down. You can mute the microphone if the noise is very loud.
  • If someone unexpectedly enters the room during an interview, apologize to the interviewer, ask for some time, turn off the microphone and camera, and then step back to deal with the interference. Before starting the interview again, make sure the room is safe.
  • As with any job interview, you should end by thanking the interviewer for your time.
