Featured Speakers

Harvey Lieberman

Associate Director, Early Development Analytics, Digital and Discover at Novartis
I've discovered my passion as a data scientist / informatician working in the pharma industry, particularly drawn to unraveling the intricate networks underlying our biochemistry. I've always worked at the cusp between science and computational analysis and have been writing code for over 30 years, mainly using R for the last 5 or so.

In the last few years I've started dabbling in hobby electronics, IoT and 3D printing (which I put down to a scientist's mid-life crisis).

Competencies: laboratory automation, programming, data science.

Matilde Kam

Principal Statistical Consultant at SanchezKam, LLC
Collaborative biostatistics executive with significant experience in building a biostatistics and data management department in a small biopharmaceutical company and leading a therapeutic area statistics group in a large pharmaceutical company. Creative, analytical and detail-oriented; able to identify needs and develop solutions that meet statistical, regulatory and project requirements.

• Instrumental in taking a small, biopharmaceutical company engaged primarily in research and development to successful approval of the first new treatment for obesity in more than a decade.

• Therapeutic area experiences: endocrine and metabolic, pulmonary, sleep, pain, gastroenterology and cardiovascular.

• Subject matter expert in regulatory meetings (FDA, EU, Japan, Canada, Mexico) including pre-IND, end of Phase 2, pre-NDA and Advisory Committee meetings.

• Initiated statistical education outreach on statistical concepts and methodologies relevant to scientific research and clinical trials to preclinical and clinical colleagues.

Simon Couch

Certified Tidyverse Instructor at RStudio PBC
I'm a senior at Reed College majoring in Mathematical Statistics and minoring in Sociology. I care about data science, statistics, and the thoughtful application of these practices in empowering and articulating social arguments. At the moment, I'm focused on {stacks}, an R package for stacked ensemble modeling that aligns with the {tidymodels} package ecosystem. Previously, my research has focused on privacy-preserving data analysis as well as utilizing methods from statistics and data science to better understand social inequalities.
