About the Event

The goal of the R/Medicine conference was to encourage the adoption of statistical modeling and reproducible data processing in clinical practice by promoting the use of the R programming environment and ecosystem.

R is a free and open-source programming language for reproducible statistical computing, data visualization, and application development. R is the gold standard in reproducible research in academia and industry and has powerful capabilities to create highly-customizable interactive analytic dashboards, as well as predictive models that employ machine learning, deep learning, and artificial intelligence.

Garrick Aden-Buie

Ph.D. Candidate at University of South Florida
Garrick Aden-Buie is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering at the University of South Florida. He received a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Lehigh University in 2007. His research interests include data mining and predictive analytics for healthcare decision support systems, with a focus on patient-specific predictive models.

Marynia Kolak

Health Geographer + Data Scientist at University of Chicago
I’m a Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) researcher using open science tools and an exploratory data analytic approach to investigate issues of equity across space and time. I use applied geographic data science, quasi-experimental econometrics, and statistics to seek policy-driven, systems-integrating solutions. My research centers on how “place” impacts health outcomes in different ways, for different people. Current intersections include: chronic disease clusters; opioid risk environments; open science for air quality modeling at scale; built and natural environments as structural determinants of health.
