Amy Young is on the Business Communications faculty at Michigan Ross and is Consortium Faculty Director and Core Faculty at the Center for Positive Organizations. She received her PhD in Psychology from the University of Michigan. Professor Young teaches positive business communications at Ross and provides students with tangible communicative strategies to build and expand human capabilities and wellbeing within the organizational context. Her research and scholarly work focus on the beliefs and behaviors that enhance performance at the individual and organizational levels. She has over 50 publications and commonly presents her research at conferences throughout the US and abroad. In her most recent book, Thinkbanking & Corporate Webbing, she explores the use of digital technology as a means of building employees’ connections to each other and a larger organizational purpose.
Eugene Applebaum Professor of Entrepreneurial Studies at University of Michigan Ross School of Business
Stewart Thornhill is the executive director of the Samuel Zell and Robert H. Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies. Professor Thornhill teaches in the BBA, MBA, and EMBA programs and works with a variety of executive education clients at Ross. Research interests include competitive strategy, corporate entrepreneurship, and innovation. He is faculty director of the Zell Founders Fund and serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Business Venturing and the Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal. Thornhill’s extensive background also includes global experience, having held the Karel Steur Chair in Entrepreneurship at the Universidad de San Andreas, Buenos Aires; and various professorial roles at Jacobs University in Bremen, Germany; the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris in France; and the Richard Ivey School of Business in Western Ontario.

Through Sustainable Brands, she and her team lead the global conversation about how 21st century brands can—and are—delivering new business value through innovation for environmental and social purpose. In addition to overseeing direction and strategy at SB, she writes and speaks around the world about the shift in consumer demand and the opportunity for brands to respond by changing the way they think of and deliver against their role in society. She currently serves as faculty for Harvard’s Leadership for Sustainability Executive Education program and is on the external sustainability advisory council for P&G. She was recently awarded the Hutchens Medal from American Society for Quality, which recognizes exceptional leaders in social responsibility and sustainability.
