Adora Cheung is CEO and co-founder of Homejoy Inc. and on the Board of the Homejoy Foundation.
She is 30 and lives in the neighborhood of San Francisco now. Prior to Homejoy, she worked as a lead product manager at Slide, overlooking multiple projects such as FunWall, SuperPoke!, and SuperPoke! Pets. In 2010 Slide was acquired by Google.
Andora has three siblings. When Cheung left Slide to start her own company, she joined forces with her youngest brother, Aaron Cheung, to form Pathjoy, a startup connecting life coaches to clients online.
The idea came when her brother was looking for a cleaning service. Actually, Andora’s family never could afford a house cleaner. Cheung created Homejoy with her brother in 2012.
For research, Cheung worked at a professional cleaning company to learn the issues facing cleaners, including scheduling difficulties and inefficient traveling. She was the first cleaner for Homejoy and cleaned houses herself as the startup got off the ground. New Homejoy hires were required to do a test cleaning job as part of the hiring process. During the test, they were taught how to clean in an efficient manner, and how to communicate with the homeowners in a friendly and effective way.
After establishing Homejoy in July 2012 Adora Cheung has grown the team from just her and her brother to over 120 employees and a platform that serves hundreds of thousands of households in over 30 cities across the U.S., Canada, UK, and Germany.
