About the talk
Data has the become the new soil upon which enterprises differentiate, innovate, and build business value. As demand for data as the raw material for competitive differentiation continues, finding trustworthy data and securing its appropriate use across the complex landscape of hybrid data environments on premise and in the cloud with enterprise assets increasingly sprawled across multiple cloud providers has become a significant challenge. Navigating the landscape requires enterprises to build security and governance into all of their big data operations in the rapidly shifting data privacy landscape with GDPR. In this talk, we will outline how the open source big data ecosystem can help enterprises build trusted data lakes. We will outline key capabilities that have been added in open source projects such as Data Steward Studio, Apache Ranger and Apache Atlas to support multiple on-prem and cloud clusters and multiple services often running in containerized environments. We will demonstrate these features in context of the challenges faced in safely moving data from on-premises data centers into multiple public clouds, safeguarding and applying consistent security and governance policies across diverse environments to deliver trusted data and insights to the business.
