Professor Klaus Schwab was born in Ravensburg, Germany in 1938. He is Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, the International Organization for Public-Private Cooperation. He founded the Forum in 1971, the same year in which he published Moderne Unternehmensführung im Maschinenbau (Modern Enterprise Management in Mechanical Engineering). In that book, he argued that the management of a modern enterprise must serve not only shareholders but all stakeholders (die Interessenten), to achieve long-term growth and prosperity. Schwab has championed the multistakeholder concept since the Forum’s inception, and it has become the world’s foremost platform for public and private cooperation. Under his leadership, the Forum has been a driver for reconciliation efforts in different parts of the world, acting as a catalyst of numerous collaborations and international initiatives. Circuit alcohol. When does counseling welcome here in doubles? I think it's the 12th item that you have given I said the honor to welcome you here in doubles getting all the a decisive decade-by-decade for Europe in which the structures of a historical you have to be more organized and Dimitri modernize their so that we can have a strong Europe in the Future 2 All Skeeter. I was looking forward to hearing your speech Federal Chancellor, see how we can have a strong Europe. Thank you.

Descendants from here for the picture of time understanding of just one day to participate in this me to bring people together and I would like to congratulate you because you have to really created something very special and a singular kind of fun the phone actually namely improving the safe as well and you invited representatives from the Realms of politics a business and various organizations such a divorce but in many parts of the world and I think we can safely say

that when we look back 50 years the world has indeed become. 50 years ago we were right in the middle of the Cold War. Germany was divided well by a WhatsApp mean that I would at some point in time. This cold war ended 30 years ago who you bipolar World turned into a multipolar world. Ashley as a multipolar. Well that too is something that we did not envisage that he is ago has a number of problems to contend with the per capita income 1975 more than double people who have to live to extreme poverty have

become significantly less busy. We still have a lot of property in the world. But also as we got very bad diseases such as Pony we've made enormous strides. Oh my God would not have been possible without a cobra International ability. And this is what countries did they cooperated at International level and this is why I consider it to be so important to these kind of cooperation. Although we have new problems to contend with if we look at the global waste free food at the global economic Forum because I also have a color code.

Change it and what has come to the basically environmental problems in my mental issues. So sustainability converging is a prime importance of stakeholders for a two of the appropriate for the world as we know it today and we need to debate this way to say that the world as a whole is not ready able to do that much but optional the sustainable development to drop those more than 180 countries take the ground for this is a very clear that we possess DG's we want to put them into reality. But when in September, I attended the summit

that took stock of what we have been able to do so far. It also became very clear that we still have another now Kate and if we go about it with you sort of momentum we've put you in so far we will not be able to take those goals in time and mr. Just told me that there was an agreement with the United Nations at to set up a phone that deals with the oceans of this world with Maritime how we need to go about trying to make more progress and more rapid progress. In order to detain those icgs. The Secretary General of the United Nations

is quite right in saying we know about the area of biodiversity loss of top countries are dealing with his butt and that is a playing on the agenda of the world economic Forum an ulcer in the area of climate change. The question will we attain the goals that we committed to in the Paris climate agreement May well be one survival. The whole so we have to act because we know that fool be attending the ghost of the goal of bringing global warming below 1.5 degrees. I miss something that if we want to achieve we need to speed up matters because

with the soda Speedway so fat we will not be able to do that. Now, what does this mean? The global Community asked to act together? This is an international agreement. I'm 14. Each and every one is with us on this but a few too many many countries are filmed each and every one of them has to give a contribution before the 30 years of the German unification. We are in a situation where we are compared to feet. We have never had a Mess Lower number of unemployed people. We

are spending a lot of money for research and development. We've increased our investments what we need to be able to do what we need to be able to achieve and then it's below 1.5 degrees compared to pre-industrial times means no more and no less than to climb a neutral by 2050 presidents that have been here has presented the green deal to you has to be the first continent that is free. transformative processes of a historic nature this transformation essentially means that the whole

way that we do business that we live in that we have grown accustomed to in the Industrial Age will have to be changed. We will have to leave that behind us in the next 30 years ago with my the first steps already and we have to come to completely new value chain and that contain industrial production change by digital ization. That is a transformation that we have to contend with. If we hope that the transformation of admission is free admission for you. I will strengthen the progress of digitalization.

Let me props and take a moment and tell you what we're doing in Japanese to society because you can very easily pay lip service to such a tentative. You like to commit yourself in a quickie to this particular. Give me a 2 month old have a wind farm on your doorstep. This means that over the past year. We have energy that because we feel that the waste management for nucleus and is simply not sustainable in the long run and that they are the risks are too great. And we decided that at the very latest. 2038

if possible over 225 35 we will exit from coal a we will no longer be still has a fancy huh Black Shaft off of energy generation 30% of their about to call people who live in the areas. Where are lignite is it extracted and then they have to now all of a sudden switch completely to new energy sources, but Generation 2 electricity supply has to be changed to 22% and 78% of all energy consumption goes into eating into mobility in industrial production. So

we intend to buy 2013 R2 have 65% generator to renewable or country where the sun is always shining all the time and wind also is not always blowing that's quite a considerable amount. It means completely in agreeance to those what power is needed. And we also intend to lower the overall CO2 emissions to a 55% because then we wish to be by 2050 knesset. with the climate neutrality So this is a complete change and I apologize electricity generation is already difficult. We are now currently at 42% off of noodles to our only choices in our own country

because Energy Efficiency if I'm with the efficiency with which we can generate electricity from wind and that is not so high. I always do that regions in the world for the efficiencies much higher, but there is still 78% for industrial production and mobility and the question of how they were playing a very open minded as regards suitable Technologies, and we will have an away is a great. I'm also kind of energy generation with other countries because I'm green hydrogen can be actually generated. Tophatter than in Germany on Europe. So we have

to build up these Links at this is why I'm so gratified to know that many actions. That means that the conditions under which we both machine produced change to play this industry to will play in this transformative process of an economy's. Without actually abandon him. So which we've become accustomed to all these years, but we have to have a considerable rethink and we have to put the necessary regulatory environment of the states have to be ready to embark on this app off of innovation. So I'll be off of Germany, you know that we have relatively peaceful country but there are already

quite considerable tensions within a society Society between those two things the prime now to embark on this pump 2015 and I very well remember when that was 30 years back inside he is a lost can be done. But I also know I'm that Sunday is I'm not that much if you want to achieve a digital transformation transformation off your the coffee about you. Generation, and this is what time is of the essence and we the only one that can be very careful. I am 65 years old now so

that the importance of our young people that's something that we altered as a potential we ought to understand this as something where they always look at the song. Well what I found by the climate that we will live in then we live in a society because in Germany to we have a huge group of people who sings this all of this is not throw out that not completely convinced of how do we take them with us democracies after finding people to take them along to try to make them passionate sat in the bathroom right now.

Contribute to a Simply Having too bad those and I have to tolerate those changes the infrastructure in the city. So busy is much better developed an individual Mobility is something that will be It is very clear that it is. There's a very clear evidence from the underlying and scientific data that climate change is happening. But one can always try to develop an anti fact policy if you like some emotions and that was not have an enormous. So that's what we have to reconcile the facts of the emotions and I would say that presupposes

at least that we just said we discuss matters with each other and the fact that people seem to the wish to talk to one another possibility to build a bridge between these different views of grave concern. I'm totally convinced we had to overcome that we talked to a lot of people who've already speak to each other but not that sufficient number of people speak to each other when we know Lack of speech is where we had an orderly channel of communication between the different signs. Then I can only playing for even if you find it so difficult

puzzle piece don't abandon it. Otherwise you will be in your digital digital age is even more pronounced only talking to the people of the same you and that leads us right into catastrophe. We have to overcome this. That's the price of an action would be far higher than the price of action and hope and Innovation research and we obviously have to do more technological obligation because if we look at these was quite happy to know that the blue love Innovation index of Germany in 2022. My great surprise places at number one will not talk to him every day about

what works everyone in our country quite often. We concentrate on 40 more and more than what I supposed. Justice and it I don't know why you're laughing but I think it's an option of a proof of I take it you should take that as an automotive industry that is very cool business tremendous weather in the end. We will be fast enough. Well, we'll wait and see the risks of owls have mentioned in this study. But we think that as far as possible we owe to allow the market forces at to play

hand and that the most difficult area of transformation is mobility right now because this change from CO2 Mobility to agility is tremendous and I will have a chance to I know it's a Saturday because there are quite a lot of admissions at 2 and I also generated in the process of producing that but we have to provide Innovation example, we now have a very high electricity price in our country because we have to promote a renewable citizens of America spending 30 billion because they are subsidizing about that means that we've actually come to marketability off as

solar and wind technology technology said no longer and tail cost of production. So these countries that are poor but that also hope you have a much smaller footprint as we got CO2 emissions. A quickie into this new world is playing a double the amount now. Climate protection over you brings me to the question of how does this developed outside of Europe in Europe? We have more or less created the conditions. It's getting more difficult to get people on hold not to leave larger

groups behind. But if we look at the rest of the world as we all know how difficult it is to promote these imagine Warren peace that we have to contend with if we don't get Africa with also in Asia in many cases. We already see the consequences of climate change. Is that may have if you have not even had a chance to use of the methods to to fend off the effects of climate change, but things are changing so quickly as I said to just let the tension than the rest of the with the rest of the world have known. However

pools a constantly shifting the balance of power in the world is constantly shifting. If you don't go again, that's 30 years ago. I saw the GDP of China was significant the overall GDP in 2007. Pictures of powers Sutton polls in the world getting stronger is getting weaker and that again because of tension tension that we need to attend today almost to the Iowa the Holocaust the German Federal president is present that today he will speak on behalf of Germany and point to the guilt that the German Nation. Vines and

that has will refer to the suffering that your throat of the rest of the world and that we will do everything we can so that this does not repeat itself, but we are looking back on more than 70 years 75 years of Peace in Europe. Not each and everyone has that we woke up with a start seeing the tensions between Iran and Iraq. What's happening that is this part of the world and how can we deescalate that now we say if we have a complete agreement such as we

don't have anything better to replace it. This is why we stand up for keeping this agreement between two to the mechanism because we shouldn't send as a message to Yvonne that it doesn't come without punishment for them. Agreement in 2015 as you all know, we received a lot of refugees that slide the tensions in the home regions when we also tells what was the mistake at the time the mistakes of me was not expecting these people refugees that well on our doorstep the mistake. We made was

said we weren't sufficiently phenomenon about the tension that actually made people leave that countries went to countries such as Siri about weak moment. When was about 20 million people what half of the people have fled? I'm either at now IDP still have nacho other countries. If we don't get to that has about five million of refugees that Don has to become unstable because of the many refugees have up. So it hasn't felt so many refugees the these people since we have to And now if we look at Livia, we have to be very careful that the same doesn't happen there again, we've made an attempt and

it's only a first attempt to find a solution for Olivia before Olivia is also into this trap of a proxy war as we've seen it in Syria to the great suffering of the Syrian people. We see that the country is below Serious Pizza people are going to make it to death by the instability in Libya because of flooding the rest of the country and we all have to be very very careful in. In defending those countries in the sense that they do not become unstable and all of these development projects that we have

worked together with those countries cannot be effective because they have to spend so much on the different film them more successful get together when those countries to fight terrorism in the pastor of the world as we've done this with the overall Coalition in the interior that's been given a robot man that by the United so far. We have not yet been able to Rally round and give them the support that they need a by the United Nations. Let us know what this meant for us in Europe. We have to do more preemptively

countries in order to prevent these enormous Flats of migrants in the Wave A a regular kind of migration and we will also provide of Isaiah. I'm 600 million. For example for Gabby for the units in Apalachin campaigns help those countries that had to contend that the problems that they have to Grapple with and without the security again that cannot be developed and developing that cannot be secured. I think we would all agree that the European Union the second half of this year on the

31st of January the European Union wallet change substantially. So far we've only had but had two countries that wants to accede to the European Union. But now for the first time we have a country that wishes to leave but I don't propose is a very grave issue. We will have to accept that we will do everything we can in order to have good neighbourly relations in the spirit of partnership with the United Kingdom has to live up to its aspirations and its

Ambitions that was a bundle and a new commission president as outlined. It needs to be speaking with a Clara and stronger voice and I think the one pushing to be the first CO2 freed continent in the world. I think it's a very good statement also doing move on in the world and during our presidency. We want to give a contribution to this policies that we have fast. We want to convene a summit meeting with the African countries. And that will take place in breakfast and then we want to in particular listen

to the Africans. What is there a chance that I am very glad that we no longer do something with Africa Africa has stepped out to take Child Development agenda for itself and also have developed a free trade area and circumference from the country of the wild and they decided to develop an internal African Market, which is a very courageous decision of what type of whale was the greatest answers to listen to the Africans and help them develop their ideas and

finally understand that cooperation with Africa cannot be handing out Elms by way of a charity. We have an average age of 45 years Anita and Molly have an average age of 15. What does this mean? When you have such a huge pot of your society that are young people cook a 2.2 different speech and rice menu. Do we have always said we have time but there is a pressure and I can only say the European only we know if they listen to the Africans if they also tapped is enormous potential of creativity off of to

do something that is not that easy to European Union so far as not a consistent policy on China Eastern European countries at some point go together and set France and Germany and the big ones are always meeting with China that doing that business and now we want to also get together and Amita Department of Business with China for the first time in September. We want to have an EU China and Summit meeting with all of the deal with three different issues ever since 2013 while working on an investment protection agreement. I hope that we will be able

to buy we're not at all certain that we will be able to do that how to connect with climate change because China introduces an emissions trading system that is a day of Market mechanism. And when we look at the European and if we can link this up to the year to the Chinese system in which I should be around 1 for the rest of the world today with Todd country relations because China is so active in Africa. We also want to be active. Globally, and perhaps we can lay down.

Well. How is how we do with it? Then? We have always the one that just talked to the biotech Community. We from them of what we always have the name a year of his good lady as regards protection of deja in this is just like well, but you were busy too slow and this is something that we need to overcome. Otherwise, we will not be a geo-political map of states. That sounds so easy because then you always do you have your own parliament's back home that have their own interests such

as they wish you to bring to the agenda. We are two peas and I can say this with Germany. We will stand up for martinet realism will stand up for multilateral organizations each and every one can of Coke conclude trade agreements of we do this as European Union, but other parts of the world weigh, hopefully we'll be able to do this also with the United States with the most effective weight of create Global Prosperity is the multilateral way in World Trade Organization is Ponte pants with his I agree with the American

president that the WTO needs to be reformed but it has to be reminded function and the fact that we don't have this paneling place right now. I think that would take some pain and I think it shows that it's not really working well, but it should be but he wants a code is for a sustainable what I would argue that we old August we politicians. Basically, there's a whole host of opportunities open to us, but we must no longer be in Wood looking be growing at 11. That would be

letting all these many years after the end of the second world war and over again will not convince everyone but the meaning of this I think is well worth a while and I know that there are many thank you very much for your attention. A bunch of Scots playing thank you very much for this very comprehensive report. Thank you for the initiatives with regard to the Libya conference. I think of that we cannot underestimate the importance of that conference and congratulations

on your time does the results of Adidas annual meeting is precisely that you've got a large number of companies CO2 emissions. So we'll be caught are weary CO2 free by 2050 2050 is a long way away. But I think that many people want to do this idea. What's an innocent but it's funny, you know because old is a big companies in Germany want to become a neutral they wanted all of this green electricity and I'm always asking is that green energy probably the state of the citizen. So there's a run to this green and electricity in Germany.

Delete the important thing that you want to organize in the next year with the China. You just say that so there was a lot of the discussion about the development of Two Poles trying on the one hand and the United States on the other. So. So we can be on an equal footing with speaking with United States and China. How can we preserve our identity and how can we bring? That is probably the most difficult question. As I said, I don't want a new bipolarity in the world. But we must say that until we have very different social model. CC vam

between the European Union and China and why haven't we haven't transcended deposit shaper for a reason? I'll Trust and a partnership in nature. We also have for a reason at the same time we see and that's okay. Then, if you like feels committed to come in as ideas weather is a one-party rule a communist party-ruled the Cold War. It was completely different and this and this is why we owe to always try and seek those and economic context. It's not easy for us to have Europeans at this point because the language of

the United States a can and that's a fact that I have much more of an economic club. And so we Europeans have to be reflecting how we can let me put it in an abstract way. It was the Chinese Chinese office and way very carefully whether we wish to decouple ourselves from the Chinese value chain, because if we think of Internet of change at some point in time. Does he have to exchange always be aware of what the other a competitor is able of doing I would be very concerned. If I didn't know what Michael Padgett that was doing. So

I think we ought to take this intelligently and this partnership OBC from a name from a certain point of view from a well. Within this new framework with talking about the new fold industrialized the revolution. Will you talk to me about to the new industrial policy? I think that this is a very sensitive issue. How do you see the neutrality off of these are secured an Oscar for a we discuss this over lunch isn't it? A bit of a Pity that you in one area can actually play its role and have a voice.

I'm not proud of having a European companies that may very well play a dominant role in building a 5G on The evolutionary something revolutionary. I guess for the first time in real time. I'm able to link up above all kinds of different things, which means that the security demands my tire. How do I secure this while I do this is diversification redundancies when necessary necessarily ensure security of a system when I can paint it excludes because I never know as a day from its natural sciences point of you cuz I don't know what these people are able

to do. I able to have developed. So we have a b c State Communication System lab defense communication systems those I would deal with different day then the into the defense in earlier times to rock we were able to Grapple with and and Mazda the challenges of as of Espionage. I would have completely changed. Instruments, but we have to be very Vigilant. All this heap of China is doing this to they are trying to use that economic diversity. We do have been have to have access

to the Chinese market and I don't expect them allowing me to get into the state communication. But as regards to this meeting. To Europe should know I think we are too close to the end of us who have their own in the strong players. But as you said in 5G, wherever you good as regards to production, we're not that good platform economy. We're not that good in a way I can we have the problem. Is it go that every new innovation in the Welcome to New York? We are very much dependent on other

Independence and have a son basic capabilities that I need for this 21st century. I think it's a legitimate operation for continent that wants to be a cheerleading. We slowing down mode. I think he's prepared for a new res recession and we need in your favor. We should get a Slowdown in. Well, actually I like to deal with the question how we can I think the good thing is that the first phase of a trade agreement with China has been concluded right now, we in a way of an object of trade agreements between the European Union

and the United States. I have a wisdom come strongly in favor and I will continue to be very strongly in favor of trade agreements with the United States and every step of the way. We have an orderly exit Albritton from the European Union is protectionism. We will reduce the dangers of it is very obvious when I when we all work together very closely when the T20 for the first time at the head of set a label of heads of state and government we were able to Father quickly overcome the Global Financial

Chase conflict can be seen at Global growth is going down in security isolationism will not be conducive to growth and that brings us to the question of Investments. Would you probably have it at the back of my mind when were jamming to find a investor? Let me tell you we are investing more than we've ever had and I particularly in climate technology and we have a problem right now. We have now more money actually that waved and mocks and that we have that than a people we have to improve our regulatory

mechanism so that disc and what but Germany will not be so to set at holding back in participate in those measures and competitiveness Innovation. I'm trying to resolve such Investments. I believe that we have learned a lesson from the Euro crisis and and the last demand I was I know that people were very angry with me was such a bad thing actually posing the astringent taking people today is a much better place please to has a prime minister. This is because of the stringency can

also and its contribution so changing the banking Union adopting El Sol Tempe Market Union and then to mention brexit and pulsating topside lights off you a personal question. What is your personal lesson that you've learned from this whole brexit just saw a nice nothing on the one hand you have to say and you have to be very honest about this Britain has never been a truly happy member of the European family. We didn't they didn't participate in here. Schengen area

no on the common and a great changes and towards a more cohesive single markets. They were skeptical but Series, where is the European Union and Eva largest single mom, or is it another close to Union? And when that something that I need to mention here when that was introduced the British accent from the movie that was a big blow to the skull bags to the pools that we had said we need a long position. But we were able to contend with Game of movement that they had a lot of

now. I think the exit of Britain will also in a way that wake-up call you write 12 time for them and the Forum has said Rachel was celebrating 50 years. We've been connected to the top 25 in with you next time you come. Would you like to be able to say to this old hits? I don't know yet. I mean, I'll show up. I told you today when I wanted to tell you now, we have to wait and see whether you are ready to invite me again, and then I will see what I'm happy about. Let me put on some way is that this form is in a contribution to opening up

channels of communication that are a bit beyond what we used to and because I see so many people not talking to one another these days. I would hope and pray that you continue to also invites the antagonist if I can put it that way and get them to one of the same time in the 21st century. It is not actually the time he is not sensible to say I don't talk to this or that person on these people because you always have to be ready to talk to you when we won't follow your advice. Thank you very much.
