About the talk
Amazon Web Services is not just a cloud provider: in recent years, the company has done its utmost to democratize access to machine learning tools and enable the AI revolution. For this reason, it will come as no surprise that Sandy Carter, vice president at AWS, has recently been nominated as the AI Innovator of the year at the AIconics Awards.
“I had originally got into school to be a doctor, it didn’t work out, but my advisor said, ‘I think you’re going to be great at computer science,’” Carter told AI Business.
Welcome to Abby TV. Where is Joint Base? Anacostia VP of Amazon web services. Thank you so much 00:04 as a i in the base of the year. I want to show it to some swell 00:09 is being over 2,500 first inspired 00:19 you to go to Career & Tech. I'm so honored and humbled to be on the list and it's so exciting and as I think back on a my Tech Career, 00:29 my first inspiration was actually a professor believe it or not at Duke University. I've had originally gone to school to be a doctor. It didn't work 00:39
out that my advisor has bad painting to be great at computer science. And in fact that was where I took my first AI class with with that professor at 00:49 Duke University. Night at the Apollo. I'm so 00:58 well, I've been 01:07 doing Tech my whole life. So I might I'm a geek girl. I love technology and you know Amazon is all about Innovation. It's such an Innovative company 01:17 and customer impact in this award. I was nominated by one of my customers. So I just love the fact that Amazon was entirely 01:26
customer of SAS working backwards from Shimmer and so Innovative, that's really how I ended up at Amazon the biggest rides 01:35 Amazon. We believe that we should put 01:45 them in the hands of every developer and every day to scientists artificial intelligence. So I was just up in Toronto and Are 01:55 Jeep racer at reinvent which is a car that's 1/18 the size of a real race car with iot sensors and machine learning built-in and we're 02:05 really looking at training the Next Generation that doing it in a really fun way. So we're having deep racer leaves all across the world. And in fact, 02:14
I was able to talk to some customers up in Toronto about joining that leaves. So what is that Amazon is all about making it easy to use an applied 02:23 machine learning. So if you want to be really complex and do your own training modules and your own Empress models you can but we also average low 02:33 temp letting that we have from Amazon themselves to help customers and then do things like deep racing. So it's really all across the gamut what 02:41 Amazon is doing around machine learning a little bit about what they do and generally how they get involved with 02:48
Enterprises check the industry. How to be a chairman of the board of girlfriend tag so we help 02:58 women learn how to code and we also teach entrepreneurship because we believe that if you're a woman and you're going to start a company 03:08 a lot of times you're missing Sunday, you're missing skills like Financial you usually have the text guilt if we help you get those I'm really 03:18 passionate because we helped a lot of entrepreneurs and Enterprises to really grow their skills. We do a lot of great programs with Enterprises. We do 03:25
hacking for Humanity. We actually did an event with AWS that are lost on machine learning. So it is just a great group led by a 03:35 phenomenal leader. Our CEO and founder is at Adriana and she's just been driving the group. We've got a chapters and 160 cities. It's just a great 03:45 thing and you know diversity breeds Innovation and that's why I'm so excited about it. 03:54
