Jessie Kempf’s journey with medicinal cannabis began when she relocated to Orange County four years ago and took the California bar exam while undergoing chemo for an autoimmune disease. Upon asking the gentleman next to her what area of law he wanted to practice, he replied, “I want to be a cannabis attorney!” By end of the exam, Jessie had applied for her medical MJ card. She was soon leading the double life, working as a real estate attorney and helping CBD and THC companies on the side. Jessie would ultimately join forces with Dena Putnam; their first product line, “Mend,” features high-dose, full-spectrum CBD tinctures blended with select terpenes and herbs (and is also available in a THC-version). Prior to moving to Laguna Beach, Jessie received her B.A. (History), B.A.M. (Piano), and J.D. from the University of Texas at Austin and began her legal career with Skadden, Arps in Manhattan.View the profile

Nicole Davidsohn was born in Los Angeles, CA. She grew up the youngest of 4, becoming the first in her family to attend college at Antelope Valley Community College before transferring to UC Irvine on a full academic scholarship. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Social Behavior in 2011 and shortly after achieved her national certifications in personal training and nutrition consulting from NASM. In 2015, she graduated Oaksterdam University's Advanced Seminar before moving west to start Eva with Dane Kemp. They opened the first ever 100% comprehensively-lab-tested cannabis delivery. Dane saw a gap in the industry where there were no dispensaries with a high quality menu, or 100% safe supply for people sick like Nicole. They set out to be the first, setting the bar for safe medicine, honesty, and transparency in the cannabis industry with Eva. After a conversation with Dr. William Courtney, Nicole discovered that raw cannabis juice could heal her traumatic brain injury, while decreasing overall body inflammation. Her post concussion syndrome that she had for almost a year subsided in only 6 weeks after drinking the juice. The juice helped Nicole begin managing her autoimmune disease, Ulcerative Colitis, without the use of expensive pharmaceuticals. Nicole is allergic to Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and is obligated to use herbal medicine to manage pain and other symptoms.View the profile
About the talk
The immune system is the human body's first line of defense against external attack, and is incredibly complex. Autoimmune disorders, of which there are currently more than 80 officially registered, remain largely misunderstood. While most prescription medication treatments aim to suppress the immune system altogether, CBD has exhibited the ability to modulate the immune system instead, changing it instead of disabling it. In this panel we will examine the advances in using cannabinoids as an effective — and frequently far less detrimental — treatment for autoimmune disorders.
