The RMI Report 2020 assesses the performance of 12 companies with operations in Europe and Central Asia on topics such as climate change, tailings, water and post-closure management - a crucial issue for many European countries, where the mining legacy left by thousands of abandoned sites negatively impact countries’ plans to secure a social licence to restart or modernise the mining sector.
About speaker
Hélène Piaget is the CEO of Responsible Mining Foundation, based in Switzerland. The Foundation supports the view that mining is an important contributor to the wellbeing of societies, but that we need to ensure responsible mining actually benefits the economies, improves the lives of peoples and respects the environments of producing countries.

we'll be looking particularly at life cycle management, but I trust like to start with a question which we mean by ESD and I know we think we all know and I certainly some other panelists will be talking a little bit more and I'm packing it further, but the question came to me as a really important thing to consider when I was recently asked by a journalist in the context of covid-19 the problems and challenges that Mining companies are now facing should they choose between dividends or EST
a question like that? And I realize my goodness. I'm not sure everybody has the same understanding what he is GMAT be as it said this is loss of confusion and diversity around it. But I thought it's worth having a quick unpack before we continue and at least consider the following that the decision has been praised my favorite to be something like a hurdle but is it not rather an enabler? And is it not at the end of the day to manage risk? It seemed to me that question from the journalist when
