Kevin M. Powell is the Director of the Center for Emerging Building Technologies at the General Services Administration’s Public Buildings Service (PBS), and program director for the GSA Proving Ground (GPG). Mr. Powell focuses on identifying innovative technologies, practices and processes that optimize how PBS designs, delivers and operates more than 185 million square feet of Federally owned real estate. Kevin brings two decades of experience in building science, design research and policy analysis. Kevin manages a portfolio of over thirteen active test bed projects in the areas of next generation building envelope, energy management, HVAC, lighting and lighting control systems.Kevin has a longstanding commitment to smart asset management, deployment of next generation building technologies and indoor environmental quality. He received his Master's degree in Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley, and has published numerous articles about acoustics, workplaces, next generation building technologies and urban design.

Hey everybody. Welcome back to your co-host again, Lindsay Baker, and I'm here with Kevin Powell from the GSA. Welcome Kevin Kevin is the Director of Emerging Building Technologies at General Services Administration. And I thought he would be a perfect guest for this particular conference because I have a feeling we have a lot of folks from the real estate world who are wondering how exactly one is supposed to introduce new technologies into a real estate portfolio, and there are few people in the world. Who knows

about that is Kevin. So I think it's going to be a pretty fun discussion Kevin's open to questions. So if you want to put those into the chat will try to get to them at but I have some questions myself and I'm going to start with those and see where it takes us. So I think Kevin if you can just start off with telling people a little bit about what it's like to work at the GSA. unique entity in terms of real estate, but I think it would be good for I'm sure and I want to thank you Lindsay and treat

I think that the first thing is just to say a few words about who GSA is I myself kind of knew didn't really know when I took the job and I have some ideas about why GSA works with the federal government about that were actually quite wrong is the landlord for the civilian federal government. That means all of the federal building called the buildings that people associate with the government outside of post offices
