About speakers
Chris Grigg is chief executive of British Land, a constituent of the FTSE100. Since taking the role in 2009, he has put placemaking, wellbeing and design excellence at the heart of British Land’s approach to real estate. This is summed up in the company’s strategic focus on creating “Places People Prefer”.Chris will stand down from the Board at the end of December. British Land’s portfolio, which covers approximately 23 million sq ft, increasingly focused on mixed use places, including London office-led campuses and multi-let retail environments across the UK. Development is a fundamental driver of long term sustainable value and growth and key to the investment case, with the most significant opportunity at Canada Water, a 53-acre mixed use scheme of anew urban centre for London, including up to 3,000 homes. Sustainability is embedded throughout British Land’s places, which are designed to meet high sustainability standards, become part of local communities, provide opportunities for skills development and employment and promote wellbeing. Its continued strong sustainability performance is reflected in its rankings in ESG indices, including a green star rating for the tenth consecutive year in the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB), AAA rating in MSCI, 96th percentile in Sustainalytics for our sector, and inclusion in FTSE4Good and Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) 2019.

View the profileWelcome to this session, as a part of the Reimagining Real Estate Sustainability Summit 2020. This is the first-ever global virtual event dedicated to real estate sustainability health and it is organized by CREtech and jointly chaired by the British Property Federation and the UK Green Building Council. I'm Melanie Leech, Chief Executive at British Property Federation. Talk about a real estate roadmap to a lasting, positive legacy on the ESG journey. I'm
going to start by asking you to introduce yourself. Sure, I'm Chris Grigg the Chief Executive at British Land but not for much longer. I step down in the middle of November, which is great and I had 12 years ready for business and it's great. Kind of discussion about sustainability in every sense not least because we are relatively recently there any right update to the sustainability structure strategy. We've put NetZero at the heart of that. Should be working hard for the last decade on many of these topics. We felt that today was this was
the right time to be setting we pretty ambitious targets to get to next year. I'd like 20-30 go to so we can talk about a bit more about the house where to buy blue soap making sure that we're building on the work to be done with respective communities. And I mean with respect
