About the talk
Some of the biggest challenges facing architects and administrators deploying IoT is the sheer scale and complexity of managing the tens of billions of devices expected to come online in the next few years and doing so in a secure manner. This session explores how machine manufacturers (or operators) can integrate any edge device right into their machine. You’ll leave with an understanding of how edge compute can pre-process and evaluate the data from all sensors directly on the machine, opening possibilities for predictive maintenance, as well as remote monitoring and management. This will ultimately increase Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).

View the profileAlright, well, good morning folks. Good afternoon. Good evening, wherever you may be. Once again. My name's Todd. Karela and the CTO for the industry solutions group here at Cisco and the role of our team really is to define the outcomes that our customers are looking for and then help connect to the different types of security networking computer technologies that really enable them to get the outcomes. They're looking for benefits. I've been part of the industrial industry for a long time before my career started here at Cisco. So my
background prior to Sysco was with companies like Siemens General Electric and Slumbers a so I've spent many years in Industry a prior to working to bring the IT solutions into industry. I'm So today we're going to discuss a little bit about the business outcomes. And and what is looking to be achieved as we look at what's happening in manufacturing why is iot and an important iot and iot Edge and important piece of that and then what is kind of an iot edge strategy when you think about how to build this and how to apply it in your own environments. So
these are the three areas were going to dive into a little more detail. So from a Cisco perspectivism and from our customer's perspective, there's been a big realization that then the network Edge in an industrial environment certainly mean something much more than it did once upon a time once upon a time. The network Edge was primarily looked at as an activity to all the plumbing side of the connectivity that was required certainly the layers of security this involve now and what the network and bring to secure these environments. It is critical at the same
time. The network itself is now a sensor and in these environments so you can get many more insights. It's the the the network address now the access to the multi-cloud world weather be on friend clouds or or of course or public clouds that you may be utilizing analytics on the whole objective
