About the talk

Topic: IoT

Connected Healthcare systems leveraging Clinical Internet of Things technologies, wearables and implantables are expanding around the world, as we leverage more data and technology to improve health outcomes. The goals of personalized medicine and precision oncology to recommend optimized treatments based on a patient’s condition and history leverages IoT technology and volumes of historical, contextual and real time data. This creates the need to connect and leverage data and devices including genomic data, clinical and fundamental research, clinical care data, environmental data, connected health and wearables data, in multiple formats including image, text, numeric, video, audio, and in the near future Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. This need for connected data, devices, and healthcare systems will include an ecosystem of connected IoT devices, scientific instruments, Electronic Medical Records, genomic data, environmental IoT sensor data, implanted IoT cardiac devices, wearable IoT fitness trackers, and more. We need to consider and address the opportunities and challenges in this increasingly connected healthcare environment, and ensure it is properly assessed, managed, monitored and secured. We have the opportunity to leverage IoT, artificial intelligence / machine learning/ cognitive computing, and advanced defense-in-depth cybersecurity strategies to enable and protect the connected healthcare participants. The safety, security and privacy of data and patients is of the utmost importance. Florence Hudson leads the global IEEE P2733 Working Group developing a Standard for Clinical Internet of Things (IoT) data and device interoperability with TIPPSS, including the leverage of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML). TIPPSS stands for Trust, Identity, Privacy, Protection, Safety and Security, a framework IEEE has been developing for 4 years to ensure these elements are top of mind with device manufacturers, patients, providers, patient advocates, researchers and regulators. Learn about this IEEE P2733 working group which includes 230 people around the world representing 22 countries and 6 continents. You can choose to participate in this effort as we develop standards to protect our humans, devices, data and way of life in the increasingly connected healthcare world.
