I have been working with data in applied healthcare settings in Nottinghamshire since 2002. I am interested in statistical and quantitative methods particularly those that are germane for evaluation and research in healthcare settings such as mixed effects and other regression models, and psychometrics, dabbling in other things such as complex survey techniques and cluster analysis as appropriate. My other great interest is statistical and interactive graphics and data and programming techniques to improve the reporting of routinely collected data within the NHS. I led on the data methodologies for Nottinghamshire Healthcare's patient feedback website (http://feedback.nottinghamshirehealthcare.nhs.uk/) and I am a keen user of literate programming, R, LaTeX, HTML, Shiny interactive graphics (http://www.rstudio.com/shiny/) and anything else I can get my hands on that allows clinicians, managers, and the public to better understand, access, and explore routinely collected data.View the profile

Everybody come again to the ER Studio or the r medicine conference. And right now we are going to have a panel discussion talking about how to build up and our community sounds like they've done a lot of things with different website or what it is. I have to say That's great. Thank you. Hello everyone and welcome to this panel discussion which is led by a few different members of the community. Do I need to remove the store just to be able to share my screen? Because there's a number of people on here and I'll just leave that tool. Can
we do and state was founded in 2018, and an ulcer Play store and find some kind of best practice Solutions and bracelets. If you not to come and get involved with out to let you know that I'm a nice guy, but he's very involved in the community and I'll start with the panel discussion. Yes, I will before inside question. I'll just just asked me if I could survive a night chest, just full of the Savannah International Conference in the world. But it's made of hundreds of
organizations. And I went for one of those between the individual organizations and within within each organization before. So I know how much do we do. Do lots of really interesting stuff, like we're spicebush drive to Cason and statistics machine, but we also as I'm sure they do a lot of help since reporting to central government other agencies. And I can take a boy out a time. And often. I love that report things pretty meaningless. Indiana, just ten years now, and in the very early days, a lot of organizations were very reluctant to
use all know because of our particular just because it's time for source, security and books. And again, I think I was coming to buy that, we're looking to use it the whole culture of the whole culture around. I was a little scary and I remember when I start learning a lot of people go to be all mailing list which the old times were done by the almighty. Isis Torres to this day for been quite punishing environment. The Lord, as he writes the wrong question, to an individual, some of us to letting our takeover role in the NHS and elsewhere. I really,
was, is quite difficult from Limelight, and it wasn't clear to me, anyway. And I think two others, in the same boat the NHS would ever accept It was never clear that it was a scale. It was already going to be Folly to use three things. I really important, if we really made it all the difference to to be into that use fall in a hole in general Community, visibility resources and it's a fairly small community, and it's a fairly Nava Street to take me to
celebrate ready. So it's a very friendly bar when we pride ourselves on that, there are no stupid questions. And I think some people who may be intimidated by stack Overflow or some other slacks, feel completely. Okay, asking questions are we do have some people in this in this like who can certainly answer the questions so that's pretty great issue. This visibility is not just a couple together by Let It Die. It's a proper project is being funded by the foundation. And so I always tell people at 1 How I was saying this is a this is a project, the
health Foundation taking it on the front of it going to take me to seriously. I don't think having the external feedback in the external validation. I think it's really helped because that way we can hang with Artie departments who did in the middle of an argument. I'm so since it's just something it's just there's so many of them is Nolan could benefit from a Alice really hard to for them to to have the time in the space, to learn this stuff to have a conference to have weaponized to have training days and, and it just so, you know, it's not too big
from The Flash, The Flash, but it's just about giving enough people enough time, just to, in a half, a bit of spice to kind of grow and develop, Thanks. Chris. That's why I help people to embrace a. New wife is working a little bit about the foundational principles and the foundation principles in today, and it was from the promotion of all within the NHS. But with a bit of a plus Services while. So just NHS Boulder in this kind of deals with an ulcer, but I think was really came for me with the technical training
with some Advanced Excel, but Having learned because it looked pretty interesting to learn. I found that it was much better analysis in which I was trying to make people do. Am I stopped going on? I've been planning all along with us for the next two years since I found that it was a very flat tire. Rocky that does a cool group of people who work with us. But we're encouraged to have a voice at whatever level of all, or even within our organization is a great way
of meeting people, outside of your organization, and it sucks or fill the Gap. With in a house cat and Alice in areas like you have a lady. We have a tendency to you, but it's also just because we have such a small quiet voice within the world analysis, and I think they really really interesting and circle to learn, it's so sad. The cooking thing that people eat around you. Help and teach you what my name. Nothing exciting. So I thought you said the next question. I just
asked you a question and it's always makes me very proud. I guess I'll come easy on the phone list in the drink all of the all of the price of plates and again thank you to our van to the house foundation training session. Call Oscar Prince smoked in 2 or 3 hours as we had extended. And I love your friends accidents have been over two days and then again they're almost out and about and Keynotes a session and They left before coronavirus. And before I think about half of them will write you a rest
area. I've been broke through the open space and give me in 240, instead of varnish at 10, because of the taxes for us as a small, nonprofit organization. So, And we also working together to put to call to log in and outside of fashion and small things that how to report about coronavirus case in our bikes and Conference. We also planning sessions and our lady's, we also working on faces are solutions. So it's certain passages, which would support conditions and listen than a chest. But just follow.
And these are things that could be difficult and someone else question and and and and how do you think with me? She can have some change or correct some of the mistakes. Yes, well, just surprised that question. I just want to say that this was originally Tom, so it's not like bullied everyone on the panel to give me extra spices. I'm a man come today, so I'm just too but yes, I think the thing about the thing is I think we have very much of the beginning about you and he has a community but also I think I lost it was all about you and that's
why I mentioned before. I think I could be mean to us because intermediates and I think we may be need to grow a bit more expertise to happy with the depth of knowledge. So we have people who can answer like d plow questions we can have people who can do that kind of stuff, I think. So the real, you know, experts on a particular area, I think by the time, I think that's particularly true when you think about it. So if I was married in the NHS, so I thought I mentioned at the beginning. Little
things and some of those organisations about if it's old one or two unless they find it very hard to draw an expert knowledge. And that's that I think fragmentation within organizations took my license in a couple restaurant in the beginning that we call ourselves NHS all, but I think we should be cold and Health and Social care and NHS on Auburn pythian and Julia. I know the programming language is the office about the mouse old. We do have some pricing and within the slack and we try to be very
welcoming to party by myself. But I haven't pushed aside because I think when people to learn here, Public ceremony Jamie. When I would have any Jeweler uses actually looks like I'm keeping towards you. I want someone to go off and I think something else that we need to do is think about and this is against me. This is sort of like a general singing in it in the world. That I know, he's kind of soft skills and influence, not kind of thing, as we've mentioned, but I think we also need to get better
as individuals and as a group at kind of punching above all white in strategically in 11 Regional groups and you know, cuz I think we'll do what we can achieve a lot with what we doing. I sent you can eat cheese even more if you can get your voice and I think what happened, NHS brand a project underway at again. So there's a quiet in the early stages. I myself am working on something and I think that's the other problem as well is nhs's. It's not a legal entity is now an organization, know what works when I guess it's just a group of people who come together with similar
interests. And so, it's very hard for us to kind of get things off the ground. So will I, we have money and we have all the case. Something, you know, two projects. The people doing this, for example, may, I know I've got a full-time jobs today, so I'm fixing a cold ground can be challenging, and that's a real shame. But that's, you know, that. That's the nature of the beast. That's what we working with the other thing on the subject, if it's possible, I don't know. The funding is honey for certain amount of time, it's possible. We might want that needs without to bring an organization with
no funding and being effective in that way. We could do that. Against me to sell it, right? Because as I was saying, it's about, you know, the philosophy of a bit of money. So that's something that we may have to face in the future. Stocking say that you wanted to respond. Yeah, I'm just quick look at the chart and do think you should go Boston clink. They are conference. Yes. Restriction is open. If you want to register your vodka have morning sessions, an old-fashioned expression. So hopefully we don't
have any Thank you for Anastasia. I could tell from my point of view and using all in the community, I haven't experienced in, but I seen others. I think, as Chris at 8, it to, we've got a job to do. And if you already entrenched program, that works like sequel, that you need support still able to take that time. I will be there at that time in the support, but you still need that time to use the, the, the program make mistakes. And when you are under pressure, you can't do that. You have to just continue with what you're doing, is the
recognition of its as well as Olsen related to that. You can do great things but if people don't understand what it is that you've done it and called it, they want you to them, go back to what they recognized. It comes back to Microsoft SQL specifically in the eye and I think it's outside of it is. It's just gross. Management is not the way of analyzing things. So I think that comes with it. And with that is all, I'm trying to get people to volunteer. Their time is always difficult and it
with that bicycle. In recognition of this is a really great thing to practice your skills with presenting your day. So you're not, you're supposed to be some some information sharing that seems to me the biggest roadblock though. I think, for me, the the number one principle of and I just saw I told about sharing like that. That's what it's all about for me. So, upset about sharing a value I think we saw picked up. That was that was how I learned. All right? And I learned more about you and it's really funny that I work in a very
large public sector Health System where we not encouraged to corporate cross over the window at necessarily really personal Pride. Within the same organization, was sitting out in cursive that code that we're allowed to Chateau d'if. We bagged and played and do all the things that I can take to make sure I'm to be faxed. My organization. He may be watching at some point. I'm so I think it's, it's not really, it's the, it's the permission, I think it's his right. We're helping each other that you could run at yourself.
Afraid. I think I would be affected. Nothing. Major, but we doing it in the other guys, in the teeth of opposition. This long-standing about protecting. I pay protecting staff time and protecting organizational, resources in the stuff. Flying is giving us permission to fly in the face of. That's why I don't get involved and it was really interesting and got some good ideas and we've got a scheduled break right now. So the next session start at 35
