I have a Computer Science Degree and MBA. Startup Internet infrastructure and software guy since 1997. Most known for doing a podcast and podcast network venture 15 years too early. Turned blogger, podcaster, and tech media developer and reporter in 2004. Before that was early in the web and internet architecture (I believe that I was the first to come up with the idea of keyword navigation to replace urls in browser and search). Before doing startups I was in enterprise tech since 1985. Right now I'm running a self-funded startup going on 10yrs now doing media and software in the cloud. At the heart, I'm an entrepreneur. I love conceiving and building new products and technology at the intersection of Media and Technology; Where Computer Science meets Social Science.View the profile

About the talk
Originally broadcast in VMware's VMworld 2020 broadcast.
From around the globe, it's the Q with digital coverage of vmworld 2020 brought to you by the end where and its ecosystem Partners, welcome to the coverage of vmworld. 2020 is a virtual conference is the cube. I'm John for your host was to mid-day Volante. We are in the cube. Virtual studios in Palo Alto California as well as the Boston area studio in 2010, was our first vmworld. This is now 2020. What an unpredictable World. In fact, Day, One Summer here for the emerald. This is the theme in a digital foundation for an unpredictable World water,
run. And again, let's do a quick summary of Day. One Security multi-cloud, AI machine learning hybrid Cloud, modern apps and networking is the theme. Dave, your reaction to day one, Well, you know as usual has a bunch of an announcement that it's Big Show and I guess I would say that if you look at these announcements of a pack helping your said you got a ride going to be Driftwood and engineering and if you look at a networking, the acquisition of nice Terror in the early part of the last decade multi-cloud is a huge opportunity for them. They're clearly a big
player in that space security with the acquisition of carbon black to kubernetes security Acquisitions and other offenses in there. So they're going after security. They have it made the mark that they want to make yet. It's all about keeping VMware relevant and hybrid, cloud and machine. Yeah, it's kind of a checkbox. Such a huge install base. Everybody wants to do business with them, and everybody wants to do business with Nvidia. So to me again and still I want to talk about the vmworld, you know, where the part of the experience of being there in person this year, there is no
vmworld. Its virtual normal, you have to hang space, you have the two Cube sets. Here we have a link to the cube assets, all of our energy so we normally do the two sets. Go check out the main link, but everything is laid out on the web page. You got Cloud City more than 60 solution. Demos is a ton of contents. So, it's kind of an asynchronous trying to figure if I put a big gap there for abnormally, which is a real robots Expo floor, hang space. It's all virtual now that they got to ask the experts and other things with Ragu into a beta among other experts, but I feel this year's do
Yeah, definitely John. I mean this this is the one of those musty shows for the just a huge ecosystem. We seen that Collision of ecosystem for the last few years. Of course, the Epic Partnership of VMware and a w. A i i really his dominate, a lot of discussion. The last few years in this ecosystem. So everybody's going to the cloud, we seem think adoption of the VMware Cloud. Not just on AWS but they've touched on the announcements here. Like with anzu it's GA with AWS. They're spending with not only Microsoft Azure but even Oracle oci and John. One of the things we look at is
you know who's driving that Innovation change. We see a big Push by VMware to go deep into cloud-native in who's leading that, you know, Joe beta who we known for from the early days of kubernetes so much of that the coupon ecosystem is is now part of VMware, Greg lavender. The CTO he was most recently in Industry helping transformation of some large companies in. That's the challenge that VMware has going from their dominant position in the data center. Live in the cloud environments. We know from a technology standpoint ATM container bare metal that you can use whatever makes sense,
build your application, go faster, go faster. So big change there in the community. John it is, it is greatly distributed and in highly diverse on the lots of pockets of interesting conversations, always hear, right? So you know, how do we replicate the hallway track? There's good things we seen this week and we're all learning here in the 2020 environment, like, yelling over the bands and people trampling to see the concert. John Legend's going to be playing really quickly in the next few minutes. Day final a word here because the Innovation strategy of VMware has to be on full
display in this unpredictable World. Multi-cloud AI. It's crazy right now. Huge opportunity, big Tailwind Cloudy with a snowflake IPO and just ongoing surge your thoughts. Play that hybrid to talk about VMware cloud in AWS and receiving via foundation. And the other foundational elements of showing up at the data is really having contractions. So that's something that I'm watching, very closely, nice, thanks so much. I know what part of a virtual program of things vmworld for including us in the virtual program. Thanks for the commute, for all the support of
