Some say it's written by Stephen King directed by Quentin Tarantino and we're actually only have way in As wild, as it may have seen a few changes. Also mean, Paradigm Shift where she believed historians, will look back in the year, 2020 and say this is the year that internet. Really hot companies are
selling remote. There's an unprecedented level of unemployment and economic uncertainty. And there's an increased awareness of diversity and inclusion. So how has all of these been impacting or what places? Well, first interest in remote has exploded, so search volume for remote jobs has increased by 488% and search queries for remote. Hiring has 19 X. Remote work is definitely in the process of crossing, the chasm to the industry. I'm too mainstream. In fact, some things that he has actually cross the chasm on a specific date. May 12th 2020,
that's the date. When Jack Dorsey announced that all Twitter employees will be free to work on anywhere forever and soon after many company has also follow suit Facebook, Shopify, coinbase, and many more have been announced that they have an updated remote work policies that were employee. That would give employees a lot more flexibility in terms of working remotely. And of course being remote and distributed is a spectrum and different companies have adopted a variety of different remote policy lecture. You
have the crowd and food distributor company such as automatic which is over the OG and the remotes days and companies. Such as I fear, these are companies working across different time zones and thriving, an excellent, a synchronous Communications. So many of them actually have a booth at the job fair here today. So please make sure you go there and check them out. And they're also be remote first companies, such as Basecamp, cello square. And more of these companies design, their processes around remote
employees and offer. Often prefer to hire a remote positions. They might still have an office from time to time, but working At office, if it's mostly optional. And there is peace, print out the remote for any companies such as slack as Asia Nails on Facebook. Those companies hired many perform, any remote positions. While also allowing for that, you requiring people to work together in person. Finally, there are companies who haven't fully Embrace remote work yet, but are forced to go remote to the covid-19. So, why is this happening
right now? So why is, why has future the future? Be accelerated. So, as someone reasons that happy a preventing remote work on being abducted by the Main Street Bistro, three reasons, our inertia status and productivity. So in their shop has largely been addressed by covid-19 and the status since Twitter and some of the world's best companies are now fully embracing remote work and a great company and says such as this one that are trying to help make green remote work in mainstream. So I remote work is now. Legit is no longer
as edgy as weird as before. At in terms of productivity while after working remotely for a few months that people who have started to realize, hey, my productivity and my colleagues productivity working at home is a boxing. The same as working at our fancy downtown San Francisco office. But is it really still necessary to demand every want to work out of the office every single day? And most importantly, there's just tons and tons of innovations that are happening in this place. So, the landscaper remote closes to fix bloating
from remote collaboration, remove white board game. Remote hiring, remote compliance remote onboarding in the list, goes on and on there are literally hundreds and hundreds of companies are innovating and literary changing the World by solving challenges of remote work and help make remote work even more mainstream. And many of these companies are also here with us today, such a steal and you're up, please make sure to check them out at the employer Expo. As remote work is becoming mainstream. Are now viewing remote opportunities as legitimate career options as well. So, 73% of tech Talent now. Accept a job offer without ever meeting their teams in person. So the town is becoming more willing to decide, major career moves, remotely and work from anywhere in the world. With a lot more flexibility with my also start to see a wave of migration out of tech hubs, as
53% of professionals, say that it is likely for them to move out of San Francisco, and other Tech Hub to less expensive regions. So wife, interesting potential stats with the monitor is the real estate pricing in Hawaii. And the sea is the housing market in Hawaii is going to explode in the next 12 to 36 months. Golf course. So remote work, my also introduced new challenges and still might not be before everyone. So for example, as a result or where she do monitored several top remote job out there before
to look at the the the recent roles of a cup in the highwomen. Olie. They're still see no rules. There's a there's some people do believe that if your Junior and call me all the college of the whole remote industry, I may not be as ready for you. As I say, if you're a senior developer who have years of experience, there is still work to be done. I'm in this regard. And this also brings new challenges, so far is ample as Shane Parrish Apartments, $3 to the CEO of Shopify. On the Twitter that you no longer compete against the best people in your CD for
job. Now, you compete with the best person in the world. So the job market historically, has been a local market now, by room by removing below Kabhi Jo graphical constraints, are you now be competing against Tylenol over the world? So working remotely Ashley does not mean working from home all the time right now? Every single not All Tech workers want to work remotely at home all the time. So only 35% the minority in the workforce prefer to work a hundred

thinking about is actually cost. However, as Dashie companies such as Facebook. Do adjust salaries, based on the cost of living. So that's still a lot of questions of sub me. Some of them are philosophical questions remained about salaries of a company such as in Facebook page, just for cost-of-living based on your location and they're also companies such as back here in Basecamp that payday Global salary independent of location. So, It remains to be seen how the world is going to turn out
going forward. So all in all ultimately how to remotely has this huge potential to the most diverse team in history. So this is going to be a very very promising future that we all look forward to. Of course that we all know that remote work is not perfect, right?
