About speaker
Michael Lavarch has held senior roles in government, including serving as Australia’s Attorney-General (1993-1996). He has also held the roles of Secretary-General of the Law Council of Australia, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Law at the Queensland University of Technology and Commissioner for the Australian Skills Quality Authority. Michael is currently the Chief Adjudicator of the Alcohol Beverages Advertising Code adjudication panel and the Independent Chair of the Board of Australia’s Financial Ombudsman Service prior to the establishment of AFCA. His current directorship are Way Forward, Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman and Catholic Professional Standards. In 2012, Michael was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to law, education and human rights.
