About the talk

The performance of voice technologies has improved greatly over the years, but can these advancements improve our lives? In this panel, we will hear from five people that are applying voice technologies to do exactly this. Alice Smith is the CEO of SpeakUnique, a company that offers personalised synthetic voices to people that will lose their voice due to a medical condition. Pooja Jain is the CEO of CogniHealth, a company that provides a digital companion for families and carers of those living with dementia. Christina Boididou has worked to identify fake tweets, improve housing projects, and now works at the BBC to develop Beeb - the BBC's new voice assistant. Saturnino Luz works in medical informatics developing machine learning (and alternative) methods to healthcare contexts, and coordinates the Technology and Communication Translational Research Group at the Centre for Dementia Prevention. Finally, Angus Addlesee is a PhD Researcher working to adapt voice assistants to be more accessible for people with dementia.
