About the talk
In this technical workshop, we will show you how you can use open-source tools to make a virtual assistant that you can talk to on your laptop. Vincent will start from scratch and by the end of the workshop you'll have an assistant that you can talk to from the command line. We will also explain how the setup can be extended to handle Non-English as well as custom responses. The workshop is intended for a technical audience but you're not expected to have in-depth knowledge of python. If you've got a modern laptop with python installed, you should be good to go for this workshop.

About speaker
My university background is in applied mathematics, econometrics and operations research with a slight specialization in algorithms and machine learning. I taught myself how to code during my masters degree, which turned out to be a very very smart thing . This was despite some of my professors warning me not to spend too much time on it. I am an informal techie, I enjoy building good systems that make the world a nicer place to live in. I have issues with work environments where growth, greed and ego are favored over honesty. Contact me any time you like, but be aware that I'm only interested in technical problems worth solving and that hype is dangerous. I’m pretty happy with my career so to and recruiters/tech-bros, you can approach me but I'll gladly point it out to you if your manner is inappropriate.
View the profileHi everyone. My name is Vincent warmerdam and I am a research Advocate at Plaza. What we do is we make open source software to make a virtual assistant. I would I like to do today. It's just explain to you what the merits of that system are and also just the basics of how it works to do that. There's one thing that we will need to do and that is that we will have to install rasa first. The way you do that, if you have to go to a terminal, here's mine. I'm using visual studio code for this. And when I activate it, here is a
virtual and Firemen's. Inside this virtual environment, you are able to install rasa and it should go ahead and install everything but usually it's a pretty good idea to make sure we woke up the correct version. So if you're going to install Roth, I just to make sure that we're all using the same features. I would recommend installing Raza version 2.2.0. 7. That's the version of I'll be using today at least. And again, you should be able to if you're in a virtual environments by chipping, just installed
Raza, and this should install everything that you need. How Wild is installing? I'm assuming the lot of you are now running the install commands. But while these so again to install this you just need to run this paper install browser command, but this command can really take a while. So what I would like to do is just give a little bit of background on what grounds is all about. And then also explain how the systems going to work. And then by the time I'm done with
