About the talk
Designing sheet products and materials can be a painstaking experimental process with plenty of constraints and limitations. Running real-world lab and plant trials is both time consuming and expensive. Simulations can assist trial parameter selection but must carefully consider a wide variety of real-world constraints and situations. The sheet product and material design work flow requires a systematic way to evaluate these constraints to accelerate the innovation and keep up with the emerging sheet product and material design requirements.
In this talk, Vishwanath will share how Novelis, a global aluminum rolling company, overcomes these challenges to run efficient experiments and, in the process, develop novel sheet product and material designs for a variety of use cases. He will focus on a variety of tough to manage variables and how a broad cross section of parameters are tuned. And he’ll touch on the way they apply SigOpt to accelerate their sheet product and material design workflow to derive entirely novel insights.

At Novelis, Vishwanath leads the global AI and Advanced Modeling group. Apart from people and project portfolio management responsibilities, his current scientific areas of interests include machine learning, advanced modeling for sheet metal products and processes. Before joining Novelis, Vishwanath worked as a post-doctoral research associate at Brown University, USA. He holds a doctorate in engineering sciences from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany.
