About the talk
In June 2021, the BCBS published preliminary proposals for the prudential treatment of banks’ crypto-asset exposures, to address potential financial stability and banking system risks. While there is widespread recognition that regulatory clarity is urgently needed, the proposed approach is considered by many to be overly punitive. In this session, Bill Coen, the ex Secretary General of the BCBS, will discuss how exposures to bitcoin, ether and other DLT-based products could ultimately be treated for regulatory capital purposes, as well as prudential considerations beyond direct and indirect exposures.
