Focus on the positive aspects of AI, such as drug discovery, health monitoring, automation of boring routine tasks that free us up for more creative pursuits, intelligent assistants, cancer screening and the rise of the “centaur” humans and machines working symbiotically
Touch on the ethics/challenges: Bias built into studying old data, such as sentencing data/criminal justice data. Who will it find? Poor and oppressed people. Bad is a matter of perspective. It’s not as simple as asking the right questions. The question is whether we can even ask the right questions? To an authoritarian “good” is rigid adherence to the state but to everyone under their thumb it is the exact opposite. Ask the question: How can this be misused? is the key to building better safeguards
Touch on the bad: Turbocharging surveillance, constant profiling of the whole world, killer drones.
Refocus on the final truth: Developments are both good and evil, wonderful and terrible but we can’t stop progress. It’s coming. So it’s up to each and every one of us to work to make it a future we want to live in.
